As your constituent, I am writing to urge you make lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Virginians a priority in policy-making. Equality Virginia has identified the following key bills that would impact Virginia's LGBTQ community. I ask that you SUPPORT these bills that will help make a Virginia that is a safe, welcoming, and equal place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals and their families: SB 557 (Ebbin): Constitutional amendment (voter referendum); marriage; repeal of same-sex marriage prohibition; affirmative right to marry. SJ 5 (Ebbin): Constitutional amendment (second reference); marriage; repeal of same-sex marriage prohibition; affirmative right to marry. HB 353 (Willet): Unaccompanied homeless youth; consent to medical care. HB 605 (Sickles): A Bill to provide for the submission to the voters of a proposed amendment to Section 15-A of Article I of the Constitution of Virginia, relating to marriage; repeal of same-sex marriage prohibition; affirmative right to marry. HB 717 (Filler-Corn): Unaccompanied homeless youths; services; consent. HJ 57 (Sickles): Constitutional amendment (second reference); marriage; repeal of same-sex marriage prohibition; affirmative right to marry. I ask that you OPPOSE these bills: SB 20 (Hackworth): Transgender students; treatment, model policies. SB 177 (Peake): Human rights and fair housing; religious organizations; promotion of religious principles. SB 179 (Peake): Virginia Human Rights Act; employee safety; definition changes. SB 766 (Kiggans): Schools; male students shall not participate in female sports, etc., civil cause of action. HB 384 (Davis): Administration of government; rights of state and local employees; freedoms of conscience and expression. HB 753 (Adams): Human rights and fair housing; religious organizations; promotion of religious principles. HB 988 (Wyatt): Treatment of transgender students; model policies. HB 1126 (Avoli): Public education; parental rights; access to certain facilities and accommodations; instructional content; bullying. HB 1133 (Walker): Nondiscrimination in places of public accommodation, definitions. These issues are important to me because I believe everyone in the Commonwealth deserves to feel safe and to contribute to their community. Your support would show that Virginia is a welcoming place for all. Thank you for your time.
